Project Smart Box Ecuador
The countryβs 2008 constitution recognised that Ecuador is an ethnically plural nation and guaranteed the rights of both indigenous peoples and Afro-Ecuadorians. These include the rights to bilingual education and cultural patrimony. However, evidence indicates that, in most cases, these rights have not found their way into practice.
The high illiteracy rate is one of the main challenges the country has to deal with, alongside extreme poverty, too few rural schools, insufficient teachers, high drop-out rates at primary-school level, lack of parental support and low motivation among literacy learners.
We partner with well established, local ministries to provide SmartBoxes where the need is the highest throughout Ecuador. Every Smart Box includes required school supplies, fun creative tools, hygiene items, a Bible, and/or bible study guide.
